Church leadership positions should not be auctioned off to the - TopicsExpress

Church leadership positions should not be auctioned off to the members with the most money or success. Instead, I would suggest we ask simple questions like the following and then answer them honestly: Does he/she love God? Does he/she love their neighbor? Does he/she live in such a way that they honor those around them with their words and actions? Does he/she work hard to serve those around them? Is he/she well respected by their family and peers? Is he/she a person of character and integrity? Is he/she a problem solver that enjoys teamwork? Does he/she know how to listen? Is the fruit of the spirit evident in this persons life? There will never be perfect candidates for any leadership position, but the questions above can begin to help us focus on the sorts of things that really matter. The truth is that questions like this have traditionally fallen much farther down the list than questions like, Does this person donate a lot? Does this person seem confident? and Does this person run a successful business? While age, experience, and expertise can be helpful and will often add great wisdom, they cannot be a replacement for being able to answer the questions above in the affirmative. A person of any age or success who does not love well or listen is rarely a better choice than someone else who loves deeply, listens well, and genuinely seeks to serve those around them.
