Church, my friends and brothers Pastors Quentin Mumphery, Michael - TopicsExpress

Church, my friends and brothers Pastors Quentin Mumphery, Michael Neal and David Swanson, their churches and many others in Chicago and across the country, are marching today to peacefully protest and pray that we all would understand that #blacklivesmatter. https://youtube/watch?v=VGz5-TT-67E I am guessing some of you are thinking, Why are they doing that? Of course Black lives matter. All lives matter. I dont really see the problem. I get it. Its worth remembering that for all of us, where we live (and work and play) determines what we see. Most of us dont really see the issues facing the African American community because were far removed, as I am. We see from the outside. Whatever thoughts and feelings you may have about this action--and about the broader outcry in recent weeks over the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner (and many others)--I ask you to listen to what is being expressed, and to lift this part of the Body up in prayer. And to seek how the Spirit is leading you to respond. That is what I have been trying to do and will continue to do. Jesus--through whom we are reconciled to God and to each other--prayed for and calls us to unity, that we may be one. You wouldnt know this from the media, but we are part of the same family and in fact have much in common, including above all the core tenets of our faith (salvation in Jesus alone, authority of the Word, reliance on the Holy Spirit, all glory belonging to God, etc.). Where we differ in experience, history, and perspective, lets humbly recognize that we have much to learn. That we dont have all the answers. And that God is still forming and transforming us, both personally, to be more and more like his Son, and corporately, to be more and more like his true people, reflecting the character of his kingdom. May the Spirits encouragement and exhortation be yours today!
