The Dean of Lichfield, the Very Reverend Adrian Dorber, said dwindling congregations on Sundays are largely because of churchgoers choosing to do the DIY or go shopping instead. He said worshippers still wanted quiet reflection, but were opting for less ‘pressurised’ times during the week. File picture The admission came in a report revealing the number of people at midweek services in cathedrals had doubled in a decade – while the number of people attending parishes on Sundays had continued to fall. Speaking on behalf of the Church of England, Mr Dorber said the shorter midweek services were part of the attraction.
