Stay-tuned! *******Dharma Quote of the Day******** [On Sundays post, we shared an excerpt on the 1st link of the 12 interdependence - ignorance, which is the basis of the root poisons of mind - desire, aggression and stupidity. These obscuring emotions determines our actions, resulting in actions (= Karmas). Today we are sharing an short excerpt on how ignorance leads to Karmic formation - the 2nd link of the 12 interdependence.] Through ignorance we have that thought of “self” from the beginningless time. We have that innate clinging to the “self”. Therefore the byproduct of that is clinging to “self” and because there is a “self”, there is “others”. As we talked earlier, because there’s “right”, there is “left” and because there is “left”, there is “right”. Likewise, because there is “self”, there is “others”. Once we are so much attached to the well-being of “self”, then we’ll exploit others to achieve our own goal of the well-being of “self”. Then there is the action to be able to achieve one’s goal, we perform actions. Therefore because of ignorance, the action (Karma) takes place. Just like if there is “right” and there will be “left” as I mentioned earlier. As we talked earlier about the clinging of self, we have natural inborn attachment to the welfare of “self”. Therefore the sense of aversion, exploiting others would naturally come about. Because of such an ignorant view point, we put actions forth – indulge in committing actions (of our body, speech and mind). This is from the cause of affliction of thoughts and emotions and then action comes about. That would project one into the cycle of existence (Samsara). There are three different types of connecting Karmas: non-meritorious deeds, meritorious and nonfluctuating action/karma or unmoving action (indifferent). The non-meritorious actions result in rebirth in lower realm. Meritorious actions result in the upper realm. Unmoving action is the one which would result beings to be reborn in upper realms of form and form-less realms. - Excerpt taken from The Twelve Interdependent Origination & Rebirth by Venerable Khenpo Choe Nyima in 2012 at Sakya Tenphel Ling, Singapore. *The 2nd link of interdependent origination is called Saṃskāra in Sanskrit, and is sometimes translated as Karmic formation, Karmic creation, or Mental formations/Volitions. **All the actions we performed via our body, speech and mind, whether positive or negative, we develop a habit and become used to it, making it easier to do in the future. As such, all our actions possess a cause that will produce two types of results: future experience and conditioning or habit.
