CicLAvia was so much fun today!! Thanks to all that organized it, to all of the businesses and everyone that participated! I have driven that route in my car so many times in order to avoid the 101 when going home to the Arts District and am always wanting to look at the architectural details of so many buildings but in traffic its difficult. Today being on a bike (my beach cruiser) for those 16 miles however, with the street closures, we were offered such a cool opportunity to really take in all the different neighborhoods and the mix of architecture and older buildings including the theaters like the El Rey and The Wiltern that make LA so unique. What I did not realize until today is how many temples and churches are on Wilshire Boulevard. Other highlights for me today included spending time with the public art of the Berlin Wall sections presented by The Wende Museum and Archive of the Cold War with work by RETNA, HERAKUT, D*Face Art, Kent Twitchell, Thierry Noir and others. In addition to checking out the Craft and Folk Art Museum with the Timothy Washington exhibition and to see Jim Olartes macrame window installation along with watching him teach macrame and ... I always love as everyone else does too, hanging out at LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art with Chris Burdens lights installation. Cant wait for the next CicLAvia event!!
