Cignal buries Cavite in fifth set to arrange finals rematch against PLDT-PAF The Cignal HD Spikers might have found their feet belatedly, but they discovered it nonetheless as they upended upstart Fourbees Cavite Patriots in five sets, 23-25, 25-18, 31-33, 25-16, 15-6, in their men’s division semifinals meeting at the 2014 Philippine SuperLiga Grand Prix Spike on Tour at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Tunasan on November 22. Bolstered by their nearly completed comeback in the closely fought third set, the HD Spikers ransacked the opposition in the fourth and fifth frames to set an appointment with three-time men’s division champion PLDT. They roared to a 9-1 start in the pivotal set to put the fight out of the south Luzon-based squad. Medyo masama ang gising ng mga bata, but still nanalo pa rin kami.” Lorenzo Capate, Jr lighted the scoreboard with 17 points (11 attacks, four blocks, two service aces) with compatriot Gilbert Ablan closely behind with 14. Meanwhile, both Alexis Faytaren and Reyson Fuentes finished with 12 markers apiece. Cignal had five more blocks (14-9), with Fuentes accounting for the difference, and committed 13 less errors (33-46) than the Cavitenos. Benjaylo Labide bannered Fourbees Cavite with 16 points, while Adam Aidam was good for ten. The battle for the championship will be held on November 28 at the Cuneta Astrodome, while the bronze medal match pitting Maybank and Cavite will be on November 26 in Binan, Laguna. (JP Abcede)
