Citing the recent SCOTUS deision that eliminated pre-clearance for - TopicsExpress

Citing the recent SCOTUS deision that eliminated pre-clearance for Texas & other states, Gov Perry (GOP) of Texas wants to immediately implement the 2011 redistricting maps drawn by a 3 judge panel. Texas officials hold that the GOP controlled Legislature can legally create a district that disadvantages an opponent. Lawyers for minority groups contend the new maps still intentionally discrimminate & had sought to block the redistricting maps from taking effect. This Court decision opens the floodgates to lawsuits everywhere over election laws. One possible result, certian States (such as Texas) could be tied up in litigation & therenby not participate in the 2014 elections. ( sigh ~ LBJ must be having fits ! )
