Citizenship and nationality are two different words, but - TopicsExpress

Citizenship and nationality are two different words, but politically and generally speaking, they commonly signify to belong to a Nation-State by the bureaucratic action of receiving a passport. However, the term nationality has its roots in the word “nation”. Nation in turn refers to a group of people who reclaim the sovereign control over a concrete geographical area, as is the case of Samerna in the Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish political territories. Nations, after the Westphalian Peace , are represented by the States. The concept of Nation-State, in the actual meaning therefore makes sense. Nevertheless, a state or a piece of land is not necessary to define a nation, because the term nation also refers to the group of people who reclaim the sovereign control over a very particular way of living, as is the case of the Roman people around the world. Anyway, the word nation always refers to people and belonging. Citizenship, as the social contract it is, suggests rights and duties in a specific political society. Citizenship means social identification. @ElJull
