City Council Candidate Evaluations – Candidate Doug Reimel Candidate Name: Doug Reimel Work: Owner – Angler’s Marine/Prop-N-Sail Other: Precinct Delegate (central) Contact info: (313) 799-2063 & doug4council@gmail Platform: Open, Transparent and Accountable Government Responsible spending and “controlled tax levels”. Line item budgets (to be published on city website). Return to Traditional Values Long Term economic growth and development “Efficient Community and Public Safety Services, But at a fair cost to the taxpayers.” Stated Other Questions/Concerns: Campaign Viability: High Candidate has done at least two, targeted mailings. Literate is professionally done but low on content. Has done door-to-door in several Taylor precincts, probably in top five for precincts covered by a Council candidate. Has one color campaign sign with moderate distribution around the city. One important intangible is this candidate ran 4 years ago and came very close to winning then, so if these voters vote for him again (as we assume they will), he has a nice base to build off. Our Overall Impression: This candidate has been writing letters to the editor for years and we generally find his analysis of city issues to be on point. Again we see the “line item budget”, which strongly suggests he has a good understanding of the role of City Council in the budget process. Finally, the impression of voters who have meet time has been positive. One described him as “very knowledgeable”. On the negative side, his “solutions” (at least in the literature and interviews we have read) are vague, to say the least. Never the less, we are going “big picture” here and feel that this candidate has some good ideas, and, most importantly, an understanding of city finances and the budget process. So for the primary, we give him a “Positive” rating. Our Grade: “Positive” (4 of 5 stars )
