Description The City of Port Huron is located at the confluence of Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, in the heart of the St. Lawrence Seaway. A city of 30,000 people with a metropolitan population of almost 100,000, Port Huron offers small city atmosphere with big city amenities. The city operates under the council-manager form of government. The city has a seven-member city council. The city council appoints the city manager. The city manager appoints all city employees. The city is seeking an experienced, innovative and dedicated individual as its next City Engineer/Director of Public Works. The incumbent in the position is retiring after 16 years of service with the city. The city’s operating budget for public works, engineering and water and sewer is $19.5 million dollars and a capital improvement budget of $20 million dollars with 80 full-time employees. The candidate shall have a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; five years of municipal government experience in civil engineering and related work involving public works construction and public service operations; the candidate must be registered as a professional engineer in the State of Michigan; with experience in budget and finance; and personnel and labor relations. Desired qualifications for the position include considerable knowledge of construction and capital improvement projects administration; planning and zoning principles; general knowledge of state and federal regulations related to water and wastewater management; ability to supervise the work of a large group of employees; and the ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with the public and city officials. 2014-1-23-port-huron.pdf
