City Police Department Bestowed Award by Alarm Coalition The City was recognized by the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) and presented with the Directors Award of Distinction for excellence in alarm management. Specifically SIAC recognized the city’s False Alarm Ordinance and the reduction of false alarms since the adoption of the ordinance in February 2009. False alarms in the community dropped 35.5% for the current period when compared to the same time period prior to the new ordinance’s adoption. Fewer emergency responses to false alarms reduce cost associated with the responses and free critical police and fire resources to meet the needs of the community. Potential dangers associated with emergency responses to false alarms are also reduced. “We are happy with the results of the False Alarm Ordinance. It is always very positive when risks and costs are reduced,” said Chief Blaine Wade of the Bristol Tennessee Police Department. Data reflects 300 less false alarms per year compared to prior 2009. The SIAC is a not-for-profit corporation with the mission to “dispatch reduction” and “alarm management”, through a coordinated effort to maximize the impact on “false dispatch reduction” across North America, while empowering local alarm communities to proactively foster relationships with law enforcement before a crisis develops.
