City council members will consider an ordinance Jan. 5 that establishes well defined procedures relating to Utility Customer Service. This is Item 4B on the agenda, bit.ly/010515council. This is the first reading. The proposed ordinance includes: the due date for the payment of the utility statement will be 20 calendar days from the billing date. A penalty charge will be assessed to all balances not paid by the due date. If not paid within 30 calendar days from the billing date, service may be discontinued. A customer may be granted an extension on their account not to exceed 14 calendar days and not more than three separate extensions per calendar year with a charge being assessed after the second extension. An additional security deposit shall be required for any customer whose service has been disconnected on three occasions for nonpayment within the last 24 months. If you can’t attend the 7 p.m. council meeting you can watch it live, via the City website, at bit.ly/meetingvideo. You can watch the archived version of the video Tuesday morning by clicking on City Council, then the January 5 council meeting link.
