City of Casey is Victoria’s dog theft capital. Animal lovers have been given a ruff deal with police statistics revealing 102 dogs reported stolen in the council area in the past five years. Statewide, 1215 dog thefts have been reported to police since 2009-10. But owners are chasing their tails with less than a third of all hound heists solved, figures show. Residents have taken to social media with fears dogs are being stolen for illegal fights, and alleged dog-nappers are using markings and ribbons to tag houses to steal from. But police say there is no evidence to suggest widespread dog-fighting rings and believe many canines reported stolen have just escaped. **see full story in attached article**
