City of Hahira Fire Department ISO Press Release The City of Hahira Fire Department is excited to announce that we have received the results of our recent Insurance Service Office (ISO) evaluation. We are pleased to say that we have lowered our ISO rating from a class 4 to a class 3. To define the ISO classes; a class 10 is the worst rating and a 1 is the best rating a fire department can receive. To describe the significance of a good ISO rating for any fire department, the following calculations will illustrate its importance: 20 years ago, Hahira had an ISO rating of a class 9, and the average homeowners insurance premiums would be approximately $2,600.00 annually today. With our new ISO class 3 rating, the average homeowners insurance will be approximately $700.00 annually. That is a $1,900.00 annual savings per homeowner on their homeowners insurance, and those savings triple for local businesses. To put it in perspective, 20 years ago, Hahira had a ISO rating of a 9, that meant the homeowners and business owners were paying a combined average of $3,880,000.00 annually for property insurance. Today with our new ISO classification of 3, our citizens and business owners will pay a combined average of $1,090,000.00 annually on their property insurance.. Thats an average net savings of $2,790,000.00 in insurance premiums annually the fire department is saving its citizens. With these calculations, the City of Hahira and its Fire Department is saving its citizens and business owners more on property insurance premiums than the entire City of Hahira’s budget annually. This has been accomplished through the tireless efforts of the fire department staff, and the clear vision and commitment of Hahira’s Mayor & Council. The present elected officials have understood the need to replace an older 1970s fire pumper with a new ladder truck. Also they have a clear understanding of the critical need of paid on duty firefighters that give the fire department the capability to respond at a moment’s notice. All these things had a dramatic positive impact on getting our ISO rating lowered to save our citizens money and bolstering our local economic growth, but most importantly, it’s an attempt to lower the fire death rate for the city of Hahira, which is 4 times higher than the national average over the last 30 years. The Fire Departments moto has always been to give back to its citizens more than it takes, and lowering its ISO rating is just another way to ensure this.
