City of Rockport Minutes City Council Meeting Council Chamber November 8, 1880 According to call, this council met this evening with the following members present: E.A. Perrenot-Mayor; T.P. McCampbell - Alderman; Mike Friday - Alderman; R.H. Wood - Alderman The Mayor stated to the council that one portion of the business for which the meeting was called to order an election for officers of the municipality of Rockport. On motion duly seconded and carried, it was ordained that an election be held in accordance with the provisions of the charter, on the 1st Monday of December A.D. 1880, it being the 6th day of December, for one Mayor, four aldermen, one treasurer, one city assessor, one collector and one city marshall(sic), RJ. Carroll, L. H,. Wyatt and Samuel Laconey being appointed to hold said election and make due actions according to law. Statement of Mayor for work done in having the City of Rockport ditches drained and culverts built across the drainage ditches and the total amount of which aggregated $39.15 for which vouchers had been issued and paid, was received and approved. Account of J.l H. Benham for $7.50 work done in ditches immediately after storm and for which voucher was issued and paid, was received and approved. Bills of J. H. Benham for $8.00 and $3.50, aggregating $11.50 for work done on corporation in building bridges, etc. were read, examined, approved and Mayor instructed to draw on Treasurer for same. Bill of George Gray for the sum of $7.50 for tearing up and rebuilding cut rot in square was read, received, approved and Mayor instructed to draft on Treasurer for the same. The amount of $4.90 for which voucher had been issued and paid to furnish mouth pieces and otherwise put in order, the series of brass instruments and drum, bought for the Rockport Brass Band, and according to the city was received and approved. It was moved, seconded and carried that M. A. Belcher, City Marshall(sic), be instructed to open the ditch extending from the bay to the brush immediately back of the public school house, and that he present account for same at our next meeting. Twas moved and seconded that this council meet in call session on Monday night the 15th of November for the dispatch of such necessary business as may come before it.
