City of Rockport Texas April 3, 1917 City Council Meeting Be it RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rockport, Texas, unanimously endorse the action taken by our beloved President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, in proclaiming a State of War with Germany because of the hellish course of attacking all commerce on the high seas, and ruthlessly and brutally destroying human lives and property, and further violated every sacred promise heretofore made to the United States, and have further shown by their acts that they are determined to prosecute unto death a war between Autocracy and Democracy. NOW THEREFORE We offer our President and our Country our heartiest co-operation in whatever way we can best serve its interest, giving our labor, our sons, our money, yes, ourselves in order to quickly attain the liberty, that groaning that humanity are seeking and have sought to attain their freedom from militarism and brutality; We further urge that the mayor be instructed to call upon the Citizens everywhere to show their patriotism by displaying the beloved flags of our State and Country, both in their place of business, in homes and all public places, to inspire and cause to tingle the red blood in our veins, to rise to a state of enthusiasm and patriotism; whereby each and every man, woman and child shall feel that they have an important part to play in the drama of the ages and that their present and future acts of loyalty, self sacrifice and patience will win the applause of Heaven and Earth, and the unbounded admiration of the generations to come.
