City set to host Superleague After trips to Charlestown and Thornton, Dubbo is set to host Round 4 of the Northern NSW Indoor Cricket Superleague contest against their rivals from the Hunter region this weekend. While Dubbo’s Western Star’s Men’s 1s is leading the tournament and cannot be ousted from that position whatever the outcome of games this weekend they will still like to assert their authority on their home court so it will certainly be game on for them, in a battle of wills and skills. The Stars top grade team will be ably led by skipper Steve Skinner, who will, along with the very capable Aidan Bennewith, Dan Horrocks, Dan French, Jordan Peacock, Daniel Holland and Wade Burrowes look to stamp their authority in the games against Charlestown and Hunter After starring at the Junior National Championships in Adelaide where he was named as an Australian All-Star, Burrowes has now also secured a spot in the under 20s Australian team to tour New Zealand. It’s a monster effort from a young man who is yet to reach his 17th birthday. In the Men’s 2s, the Stars are also sitting pretty, currently in a solid third position on the ladder. They had a fairly even-paced Round 3 and can only improve on this standing in the upcoming round. They will be represented by the talented Justin Knudsen, Dale O’Donnell, Tom Barber, Jarrod Toole, Ross Horrocks, Joel Johnston, Matt Knudsen and Brendon Powyer. The Men’s 3s and Masters are both sitting in sixth place in their respective divisions despite giving it a red hot go in Newcastle in Round 3 so these games on the weekend will see playing for pride and a lot of it is expected against their more fancied rivals. They will both be bowing out at the end of this round but not before doing the city proud. Men’s 3s will be representatives includes Eric Woolnough, Josh Wright, Jackson Dawe, Will Benson, Blake Birchall, Graham Allen, Jackson Peacock and Mike Jeffrey. In the Masters, Al Horrocks will line up alongside Scott Barber, Darren Davies, Andrew Walden, Rob Green, Dave Glasson, Craig Pettit, Tim Beckenham and Brian McKinnon. This is the last round of the competition with the finals coming up in just two weeks’ time. And what a great weekend of indoor cricketing action it promises to be. Meanwhile, in local competitions the OFS B Grade eight a side comp has come to an end, with the Tropical Misfits proving too strong for Kelwrights, claiming a 113 to 43 victory in Division 1. The 70 point margin was due to some excellent teamwork and the batting skills of Yogi Chawla and Salmon Mohatta, who both made 22 runs apiece. The bowling figures offered by Matt Ball (5/-1) and Josh John (5/-2) had to be seen to be believed. Best for Kelwrights were Brenton Wright on 14, Kurt Kelly (13), Greg Carolan (3/-1) and Kyle Wells (1/11). In Division 2, the French Sticks said Au Revoir to Slappers, scoring 81 to their opponents’ 52. The diminutive Pat Nelson did well with both bat and ball for the French Sticks, making 17 runs and 5/-1. Teammate Adlai Shipp cracked 17 with the bat while Pat’s older brother Tom took 5/0. For the Slappers, Cole Shanahan played shots all-round the paddock finishing with 29 from his blade, Simon Madgwick was next best with 19. Todd Williams (2/7) and Tim Connolly (2/9) rounded off a good performance. With the new just starting, now would be a great time to gain the eye of the selectors for the Big Bash League by registering now and then showing your wares, contact Dubbo Sportsworld on 6884 0123 for details.
