City to charge SC on power consumption By Lydia C. Pendon THE Iloilo City Government will have to charge the Supreme Court an amount of P15.34 million for electricity consumption of its offices at the Iloilo terminal market representing accounts payable for almost two years from 2012 to 2013. Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog made the announcement after being informed with the situation on accounts payable to the Panay Electric Company (Peco). Charged with electricity consumption are four city trial courts, offices of the city prosecutors, probation offices and other offices of the prosecution service at the Iloilo terminal market representing accounts payable for almost two years from 2012 to 2013. The City Council earlier rejected the supplemental budget of the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) amounting to more than P15 million to pay an account with the Peco for electric consumption. However, city councilors Plaridel Nava and Joshua Alim claimed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has a ruling against payment of back accounts to be taken from the current year budget. Nava and Alim said the payable accounts with Peco can be paid from funds sourced from other programs probably from savings but the payment can’t go beyond the DBM order. Nava said he doesn’t want Mabilog to face an Ombudsman case, because of infraction of the DBM order. The terminal market electric consumption from 2012 to 2013 runs about P500,000 per month at the terminal market.
