City’s proposed levy down 5.5 % from 2012 The Henderson City - TopicsExpress

City’s proposed levy down 5.5 % from 2012 The Henderson City Council approved a preliminary 2014 tax levy of $599,000 at its special meeting on Sept. 11, amounting to a 5.5 percent decrease from the 2013 figure of $635,000. The City can reduce this figure for its final levy that it will approve in December, but cannot raise it. Residents are invited to a public hearing on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to speak and testify on this tax levy. Henderson Mayor Paul Menne indicated that he is hopeful that the City will find further savings and be able to reduce the figure from $599,000 before the year’s end. Two areas that the City will visit are $35,000 that it has budgeted for capital improvements in 2014, mainly for street repairs. The City has also budgeted $90,000 for working capital, and that number might be reduced pending the final agreement with Henderson Township and Jessenland Township for a Joint Powers board to govern Henderson Fire and Rescue. The City anticipates its piece of the Fire and Rescue budget will be about $55,000, money that could come from the working capital budget figure. In total, the proposed levy represents a $50,000 decrease from the 2012 figure of $649,000.
