Civic Service of Remembrance 11/11/13 9:15 AM – 11:20 AM (Time Zone Sensitive) Cross of Sacrifice (Barrie St. & King St.) On Remembrance Day, wreaths will be laid at the Cross of Sacrifice ahead of the civic ceremony by Community groups (starting at 9:30 a.m.) and veteran and military groups (starting at 10:15 a.m.). The service, held in French and English, is set to start at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Cross of Sacrifice at King and Barrie Streets (by Murney Tower) and will conclude at 11:20 a.m. A sign language interpreter will interpret the ceremony and organizers will have assistive hearing devices available upon request. Dignitaries will lay several wreaths during the ceremony. At the completion of the service the public is invited to place their poppies on the People’s Wreath, which will be laid by this year’s First Capital Distinguished Citizen Dr. Robert Gordon. R.M. Hutchings, Honourary Colonel of the Princess of Wales Own Regiment, will be the reviewing officer and will lay the Veterans’ Wreath during the ceremony. King Street will be closed from Barrie Street to Lower University Street from 8:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. to accommodate the day’s activities. Kingstonians can also check with their local veterans’ organization or the Royal Canadian Legion for details on other services in the Kingston area. TVCOGECO will broadcast the ceremony at 2 p.m. on November 11 on channels 13 and 700.
