Civil Service Recruitment Exercise Not Abandoned THE Delta State Government has said that the process of recruiting over 900 Deltans into the state civil service has reached an advanced stage, just as it said the Federal Government circular on weigh-in allowance will be fully implemented for journalists in the state. The state Head of Service, Sir Paul Evuarherhe, made the disclosure when he played host to the Executive of the Delta state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Asaba. Evuarherhe said short listing of candidates was on going, noting that merit would not be compromised even though the multi- ethnic character of the state would be well represented. He gave an assurance that the exercise would soon be completed, stressing that caution was being observed to avoid the irregularities that characterised previous recruitments. The Head of Service promised to get the NUJ and other unions involved in the computation of the weigh-in allowance for journalists to ensure all-inclusivene ss in working out the financial implications of the allowance. He said his office was open to all and ready to entertain suggestions and advice from stakeholders, but urged labour unions to explore every means for dialogue and negotiation to reduce incidence of strikes. Earlier, the Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, appealed to the Head of Service to use his good offices to fast tract the implementation of the weigh-in allowance for journalists in the State with the inclusion of State Information Officers in line with the Federal Circular on the allowance. Comrade Chiazor also called for merit to be used in recruiting civil servants into the State Civil Service. While assuring the Head of Service of a progressive partnership with the NUJ, he thanked the State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, for his magnanimity in training and retraining of journalists,s having sent journalists for training to Reuters, London in 2012 and 2013.
