#Claire’s #Cakes - #Romsey, #Hampshire (and a lot of other cake makers) often hear the phrase “How much?! It’s just a cake!” I would like to ask you, to please bear in mind, that when you are ordering a cake from me you are not just buying “a cake”, you are paying for a lot more. Please take a few minutes to read what your quotation from me will include: * the designing of your cake – your order is not mass produced in a factory by a machine, it is a one off, designed and made just for you *the sourcing and purchasing of good quality ingredients and other supplies required for your cake e.g. boards, boxes, ribbons, supports for tiered cakes etc. * the weighing of ingredients, lining of the tins, mixing and baking your cake and then cutting / sculpting / layering, filling and covering the baked cake *decorating the cake to your specific requirements e.g. making flowers, models, lettering etc. some of which can take hours *packaging your cake so it is stored hygienically and is safe for transport * the electricity/gas used to make & bake the cake, to heat the hot water and wash up after making the cake *special cleaning products I use to meet the high level of hygiene requirements of a legitimate, registered business (I have the highest possible, 5* Hygiene Rating) *my business has invested heavily in the expensive specialist equipment needed to produce these cakes, like mixers, cutters, piping nozzles, Sugarcraft tools, alphabet tappits etc. Sometimes specific orders require new equipment, which is not cheap *I also pay for public liability insurance Having covered all the expenses listed above, I actually include a small wage for myself as payment for actually making your cake. In order to keep my prices as competitive as possible, I all too often undercharge for the number of hours it actually takes me to make each cake. I’m sure you wouldn’t expect to work for nothing and I don’t want to either, I am actually trying to run a successful business!! I love what I do and appreciate each and every inquiry, order, comment and feedback message I receive but I wanted to explain a little about why I charge what I do and hope that this has helped you understand my prices a little more. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and understand, and of course your continued love and support. Claire x
