Classic Dr. Pepper Pound Cake 1 cup butter at room temp. 1/2 cup shortening 3 cups sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp almond extract 5 eggs at room temp. 3 cups all purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup dr. pepper (or any sugar sweetened beverage) Preheat oven to 300 degrees; grease and flour a 10 tube pan combine flour and salt in a bowl and set aside Combine butter, shortening, sugar, vanilla and almond in a mixer bowl; beat until fluffy; add eggs one at a time until blended; add 1 cup dr. pepper then add in flour mixture gradually until well blended. Spoon into tube pan and bake 1 hour and 45 mins; cool on a wire rack for 30 mins. Glaze: mix 1/3 cup Dr. Pepper (or sugar soda of choice) with 2/3 cup of sugar over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved; poke holes in the top of the cake with a fork; spoon glaze onto cake and cool before serving. I have made several versions of this cake: Dr. Pepper, coke, 7-Up, but my favorite is orange crush. Enjoy.
