Classic Review: Sorry I didnt post this earlier everyone. Todays Classic Album is of one of the most famous Rap Metal albums of all time, Infest by Papa Roach and it seemed appropriate to do this review now as Papa Roach are due to release their 8th studio album, F.E.AR, in just over one month (27th January). Papa Roach Infest 2000 Genre: Rap Metal This coming January will mark 15 years since Papa Roach emerged from the underground and took the music world by storm with their debut album, Infest. Including the global smash hits ‘Between Angels and Insects’ and ‘Last Resort’ this album quickly established Papa Roach as one of the leading figure heads of Rap Metal (not there was a lot of competition or anything though). But, the ‘shock’ success of ‘Last Resort’ is what really made this album with the single making it to #3 in the UK Top 40 in 2000. But, in my eyes, the unsung hero of this album is track number four, ‘Dead Cell’. This song is bursting at the seams with explosive Rap Metal energy from start to finish making this the best song on the album. Other incredible, praiseworthy songs from this album include ‘Blood Brothers’ and ‘Never Enough’ where Jacoby Shaddix really embraces his rap vocal skills and helps to solidify these songs as some of Papa Roach’s very best, even to today. But, every medal casts a shadow and Infest’s dark, dank and gloomy shadow comes in the form of tracks eight and twelve; ‘Snakes’ and ‘Legacy’. The problem with Rap metal is that it’s too easy to get the balance between the two genres wrong and tragically, that’s what we see here; if ‘Snakes’ didn’t have a lead guitar in it then it could pass as a Wu Tang Clan song featuring GWAR which is a shame because, the rest of the album is faultless. So, overall this album is probably in the Top Five of the best Rap Metal albums of all time along with albums such as ‘Hybrid Theory’ by Linkin Park. Infest is a practically flawless album and is definitely worth remembering. Review Rating: 8 https://youtube/watch?v=4jy8dUnPWaE
