Clay Hunt was a Marine Corps Veteran who survived wounds in Iraq - TopicsExpress

Clay Hunt was a Marine Corps Veteran who survived wounds in Iraq and a second deployment to Afghanistan. But in 2011, after battling with Post-Traumatic Stress and struggling to get the care he needed from the Department of Veterans Affairs, he took his own life. I’ve introduced a bipartisan bill named in his honor, called the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans (SAV) Act, to prevent similar tragedies. The bill will help VA hire more mental health care professionals and demand greater accountability for Veteran suicide prevention programs. The SAV Act passed the House yesterday and is now on its way to the Senate. So today, I’m teaming up with one of the bill’s cosponsors, fellow Army National Guard Veteran and Minnesota Democrat Tim Walz, to demonstrate public support for this important legislation. Join Rep. Walz and I in urging the Senate to pass the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans (SAV) Act. Add your name: action.tammyduckworth/sav-act Last Congress, a single Senator prevented the SAV Act from coming up for a vote after it passed the House. This time, our chances of passage are much better, but only if we keep attention focused on this issue. On average, 22 Veterans die by suicide every day. We owe it to those who serve to ensure that any injuries they sustain in war, visible or not, will be met with the quality and timely treatment they deserve. Thank you for speaking up on this issue, Tammy
