Clean My Neighbourhood - STAGE 2 At 10 AM, this morning, Building Blocks staff (over 60 - teachers, managers, cooks and housekeepers) and friends gathered at the Azalea centre in Kamanahalli for the cleanliness drive. They distributed the awareness pamphlets to the neighbourhood in teams of four. This was an opportunity for us to explain to the community about the work we are doing to help the poor children through education and nutrition programs at our schools. We requested their help in keeping the area around the school clean by not dumping their garbage next to the school as we took time to explain how the lives of the children are at risk by doing so. We collected valuable information on the challenges people are facing in garbage disposal. We have promised them further assistance by communicating with the authorities in that area. There is a need for the residents in the community as well as the garbage collecting team to work together in having a clean environment for a decent living for the people there. Everyone seemed to be at loss on how to do it. We have set a sample for them by doing the job ourselves. Our pamphlets included informations on how to segregate the garbage and why. People were appreciative of scientific facts we were sharing and thanked us over and over. Later some of them visited our school to pledge their support in our future endeavours. When all the teams of teachers came back form their visit in the locality we had several discussions on how to continue to keep up with the changes that we accomplished. In this discussion our staff came forth with very valuable suggestions which we will implement as this would be the catalyst to heightened awareness in the area of clean living.
