Cleaned house today with @hellotoshiko, and found this painting I did for her some time ago. The background music is a song she recorded for me, and since our anniversary is this week, I wanted to share this poem from last year, when I was first picking up the pen again.. easy to feel the weight fall from the words we promised each other’s hearts never asking to fill holes but to build pyramids did i forget to say i need you? who else have i driven ten thousand miles beside lonely highways but your laughs and music made it like route 66 heaven with your bare feet on the dashboard i’m sorry that i claim this darkness as my own pushing out companions who could steer me towards a bluer sky one that opens for miles driving past memory forget everything but you why don’t i write you like this more often? look at photographs on my computer screen we laughed so much i love to think of a future funny like the back seat of your parents car drive home from the movies who wants a serious mind so troubled by futures never lived soft data like emotional propaganda there are no hard facts i realize too late most times i want to listen to every single word like rainy third dates at fancy coffee shops i just want to share this ride to another coast frequent stops for bathroom breaks tall boys and copies of fashion magazines did i tell you that i love you today? more than all the heartbreak in the world can ever wreck inside my head i understand that pulses slow down after time and consistent refusals maybe i’m used to bleeding alone isn’t that strange pride won’t keep me warm like your loving touch like a road trip in the sun headed nowhere in particular just laughing and listening to each other.
