***Clearing throat*** Americas birthday is a few minutes away. Im proud to be an American. Despite her faults and dark past. It is my home. Shes not perfect and far from it. Our country is a reflection of us. Superficially, it appears as though we couldnt be more at odds. Anyone with a slight grasp of US history knows thats not the case, but were at a pivotal crossroad. Since our founding, access to voting and the political arena has expanded. It started with land-owning white men and evolved to the inclusive system we see now. But recently access and influence has become frighteningly more centralized. We most likely can thank the industrial revolution that. Powerful, smart and rich families/companies continue to grow wealth and influence. Can you blame them if the people wont stop them? Ultimate power, (for the time being) still lies with the people. You dont like the rulings on Hobby Lobby, ACA, Corps are people? Have you voted? Do you know your local representative? Think you can do a better job? Run. Go to law school, become a teacher, become an activist or join the fifth estate. (shameless plug for reporting life) At the very least, become a more informed citizen. Dope boys own the local corner? Really....and who do you give a harder time? Them or the police. Perhaps it should be both. I love taking photos of the American Flag. It reminds me, every single time, that this country is a collective reflection of us. Dont like what you see? Work to change it.
