Cleopas Monyepao, aka DJ Cleo CELEBRATED South African music producer DJ Cleo is hoping to succeed where rock music legend Rod Steward failed — turning professional in soccer. The popular DJ Cleo, real name Cleopas Monyepao, has shocked many people by quitting music to pursue a career in professional soccer as a goalkeeper. Monyepao is currently training with Absa Premiership side BidVest United, where he is hoping to secure a contract to realise his dream of turning professional. Stewart, a staunch fan of English Premiership side Arsenal, played soccer at an early age hoping to break into the professional ranks. He ended up in semi-professional league level. When Stewart realised that the dream of playing professional soccer was not working out, he concentrated on being a musician where he is still a big hit. “When I was still a little boy like any other person growing up in a black residential area, soccer was always popular,” said the 34-year-old Monyepao. “My love for soccer started at that time. “In November, I told my close associates that I still have a burning desire to play professional soccer. Most of them thought I was joking. “It was only after I started engaging goalkeeper legends like William Shongwe and Brian Baloyi that people realised I was serious. I asked them to assist me with tips to become a good goalkeeper. “Fabian McCarthy is one of the guys who has been supportive.” Monyepao said he was not getting into soccer for the money. “I just want to realise my dream of playing professional soccer, not for money. I started with Moroka Swallows but was sent from pillar to post. “It made me feel bad but I’m happy Wits coach Gavin Hunt agreed to give me a chance to train with them. I don’t want to be treated as a top musician. “I’m happy to be given an opportunity like any other person. I’m confident that I will one day play in the Premier Soccer League, I’m living my dream. “England goalkeeper Peter Shilton went to the World Cup at the age of 40,” said Monyepao. Monyepao is commended by Wits team manager George Mogotsi is a hard worker. “He has been working hard at training, we will keep on assessing him.” #sharing RPS.RAYZAR.
