[Click on image for audio] - As summer temperatures rise, so do potential dangers for our pets. Things you can do to prevent heat related injuries are: When you go for walks or enjoy other outdoor activities with your pets, make sure you bring along enough fresh cool water for them. Also, it helps to plan these activities for early morning or late evening when the temperatures are a bit cooler. Recognize that Brachycephalic pets (those with short noses like Pugs and Persian cats) often have a more difficult time breathing in hot, humid weather. Because of their squashed nose, they are even more susceptible to heat related problems. These pets will be happier if kept in the cool. To keep ourselves cool, we often keep windows open during the summer months. Make sure your screens are secure so that your pet cannot escape or accidentally fall out of a window.
