Clicker training is just for tricks. I agree - TopicsExpress

Clicker training is just for tricks. I agree completely! The first trick I teach horses is to stand still, calm and relaxed, facing forwards, in balance on their feet, out of my space, anywhere. I teach them tricks like being happy to be touched all over. I teach the trick of putting their own head in a halter. I teach the trick of walking alongside me, out of my space, calm and relaxed, walking when I say walk, stopping when I say whoa. I teach the trick of moving their front end or hindquarters away from me, or towards me. I teach them the trick of backing up. I teach the trick of picking up their feet and relaxing them in my hands, and allowing me to place them down, while relaxed. I teach them the trick of waiting to be asked out of the stable or through a gate or out of a trailer. I teach the trick of square halt, flexion, canter transition, healthy posture. Worming, clipping, injections, hoofcare, plastic bag ignoring, umbrella confidence, fearlessness with dogs, tractors, motorbikes, cyclists, water crossing, jumps with fillers. Its devilishly versatile this trick and treat training malarky.
