Clinical depression is a potentially fatal illness. Its not a - TopicsExpress

Clinical depression is a potentially fatal illness. Its not a character flaw, its not having a few bad days...it changes the function of the brain so significantly that the afflicted person cannot reason as a person with a healthy brain can. They see suicide as a logical choice...not because they dont love their family or value what they have...but because the brain is diseased. Telling someone to pray their way out of depression, to think positive or any of those things, while well meaning, does not solve the actual clinical problem they are suffering from. Its an illness of the brain, not the soul, not the character. A person cannot control true, clinical depression anymore than someone can control Parkinsons or Alzheimers by thinking positive.
