Clipping Found ... An article makes mention that among WDTs effects hidden in a leather case was a clipping noting the slaying here in the last few months (December 1920 in one source/October 1921 in another) of Leon J. Manfre, also known as Mumfrei by Mrs. Esther Albano (also known as Mrs. Mike Pepitone per another source). This slaying was said to have occurred on an LA street, the result of Manfre killing Albanos husband and telling her she would meet the same fate if she didnt hand over $500 and her jewelry. -- The reason I find it of interest is that among Vidors papers regarding the WDT case at the Margaret Herrick Library, he asked his assistant to look further into these events. -- My question here, does anyone know anything more? Perhaps the explanation is as simple as WDT thought the events may make a good film. Perhaps there was a deeper connection...
