Cllr Dawn Charltons letter is printed in all the local daily and weekly newspapers, Labour Cllr Little is the Cllr that holds his county seat under the cloud of fraud allegations when he just managed to hold his seat when Dawn last year polled 42% in the County Council Elections against him. Dear Sir, It was back in 2011 Cumbria County Council was first forced to scrap the unacceptable plans to charge for on-street parking. If indeed it was the “negative response”, during the public consultation, that made them see sense in 2011 that has now turned into genuine public fury”, “outrage” and “condemnation” from everyone so far consulted” somehow gives the green light for Cllr Little to imposing this legislation again can only mean that the current Cabinet possess no sense at all! Yes businesses, tourism and regeneration will be affected but they have a voice. We are constantly forced to listen to the Countys main political apologist, our VERY OWN County Councillor for Maryport South, which is one of the most disadvantaged Council Wards in Cumbria, but what about the people who have had the least say in this “debate” so far the real victims, the people who will suffer the most, the hard pressed decent people of our Town, and the other ten areas to be hit! So today I write to raise the voice of the people of Maryport, the thousands of ordinary people that have simply been ignored in this debate so far. Labours Keith Little is using his lofty position of influence as the cabinet member for highways, not to represent the people and stop this unjust legislation that will clearly hit his constituents very hard indeed. No instead he is wheeled out as the County’s main mouth piece embarrassingly trying to “justify” the unjustifiable to an ever more hostile population, many of whom feel betrayed by him and regret giving him their vote. Little tells us: “the impact would not be as bad everyone fears!” The cabinets plans to introduce parking meters, not only on shopping streets but in residential areas, and that these plans were still approved despite the unprecedented opposition needs to be challenged. Because as things stand it appears that this anti-democratic implementation of such unpopular and unfair legislation is based on some, as yet, unknown calculation, known only too Councillor Little as he assures us: “this is not going to have the detrimental effect were hearing from everyone at the moment. I challenge you, “Labour Councillor Keith Little, County Council Cabinet member for highways” to come to talk – face to face - to the people of Maryport, remember your constituents, the ones you promised to represent, like I do every week and explain to us all why you have acted against your own people. I have also applied for this issue to be placed on the agenda of the next Maryport Town Council meeting and for Little to come and explain his actions to the people who elected him. British National Party Maryport Town Councillor and Broughton Parish Councillor
