Close Hatches (KY) DK B/, F, foaled January 31, 2010 (First Defence - Rising Tornado, by Storm Cat) took to the front once she got her running gear down, she had the lead going into the first turn and went home from there in the 1 1/16 miles $200K Grade II Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn Park Race Track March 15, 2014. Jockey Joel Rosario lost a bit of ground as she went a little wide into that first turn but from there Close Hatches was in complete control. It was her first start since her 2nd place finish to Beholder in the Breeders Cup Distaff last November 1 at Santa Anita Park. Magic Union was running a good race from along the inside but could not get to the winner. Close Hatches won by 1 1/4 lengths and it was another 1/2 length back to Dont Tell Sophia in 3rd. Close Hatches is now 6 of 9 and she has earned $1,487,300. She was bred by Millsec, LTD and she is owned by Juddmonte Farms. Close Hatches is trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott.
