Closing down the University because of the CACH system is a miscalculated move that will result in unnecessary casualties. CACH is not a CPUT policy but a government initiative, so if people are not happy they must engage government. This is a system that came as a result of the Student who passed on in UJ and the continuous corruption at CPUT by people who claimed to be student leaders and all other activities that victimised students in the process of walkins. All what student leaders need to do is to think and come up with an alternative system that will also address what the CACH system seeks to address ,which is to be presented to DHET (and this should have been done long time ago by the way, but there is still time as this is not legislation but a government initiative). I say all this not because I want to look smart but because im cautious of the time that will be wasted with no fruitful results. The mass meeting I believe is a first step before the mass demonstration, this mass meeting should carefully analyse the situation. There is no sell out here so student leaders must not be preoccupied of being labeled as such, this decision was taken at a level where students are not represented. On a later stage we also need to be a responsible leadership which needs to continuously drive an awareness of student responsibilities, because many of the problems generally that student leaders have to face could have been prevented by the same students While University managers are on a mission of depoliticising student governance, we are also assisting them; we have minimised to role of student governance to fighting the same battles hence other comrades maintain that there is no revolution that can be lead by student activists.
