Closure Closure (noun): A feeling of finality or resolution, especially after a traumatic experience. Psalm 103:3 (New Living Translation) He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. I believe forgiveness and healing go hand in hand, the one begets the other. I experienced an extremely traumatic event when I was in my mid-twenties. Though I wasn’t a victim, the victims were very close to my heart. I remember being in acute, excruciating emotional pain for two years. After two years of daydreaming about committing the perfect murder I somehow found forgiveness. I figured the perpetrator had somewhere along the line been a victim also and had probably experienced that same pain. We are all victims of the devil if nothing else. My pain subsided and became more of a chronic nagging pain that is always there but except for occasional flare-ups, not severe enough to need pain medication. Recently the perpetrator died and I was hoping that the victims would be able to find closure with the situation. I then learned that some of them had shifted their hate and anger to the spouse for being an enabler. Though there is probably some truth to that I know from experience that will only keep the hurt alive. I’ve been able to keep those feelings at bay by realizing that you have to walk in somebody’s shoes to really understand. Jesus prays in the garden… Matthew 26:39 (New Living Translation) He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then after carrying His cross to Calvary, moments before being nailed to the cross… Matthew 27:34 (New Living Translation) The soldiers gave him wine mixed with bitter gall, but when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it. With this recent event, there was now 35 years of anger and bitterness in a cup set before me. I choose to drink of the cup of my Father’s will; forgiveness over that bitter gall, I found Jesus eleven years ago and that’s what He has taught me. That’s when my wound was completely healed. Having trouble forgiving someone? Ask God to help you, He definitely will. Forgiveness was the reason He came, the main reason the Bible was written. He knows only forgiveness can close the gaping wound of your heart.
