Cloth Diaper Tip of the Day: With all this talk about yeast, the intense summer heat and high atmospheric humidity, I neglected to extol the virtues of virgin coconut oil!!! Coconut oil contains lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which give it antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-fungal, antibacterial and soothing qualities. This means it makes a AWESOME diaper rash cream, especially at this time of year to help prevent heat rash and/or yeast infections. And the best part is it is cloth diaper safe. Now this doesn’t mean you have to run out and buy virgin coconut oil if it is not something you normally use. You will find many cloth diaper safe, all natural rash creams/salves use coconut oil as a base so you will get the benefits using creams such as CJ’s BUTTer or Delish Yum Bum Butter. All you need is a thin layer on the skin to get all the benefits this wonderful oil as to offer! I use CJ’s BUTTer but I also have virgin coconut oil in the house for cooking so on several occasions when I am out of CJ’s, I have used pure virgin coconut oil as a rash salve. Nothing wrong with making something you already have on hand multi-purposed! ;-) --Gina
