Cloud Business Process Management Forrester predicts that cloud computing market will increase from $40.7 billion in 2011 to more than $241 billion by 2020, with a year-to-year growth of over 20 percent. In 2011, Jim Sinur, from Gartner , predicted that business process management and the cloud would be the "real thunder." He stated that moving operations to the cloud would free up money and efforts for businesses, and those organizations would be remiss to ignore BPM. The combination of BPM and cloud deployment models like SaaS/IaaS/PaaS is referred as Business-Process-as-a-Service (BPaaS). “The Evolution Of Cloud Computing Markets” report by Forrester Research suggest that BPaaS (Business Process as a Service) should be seen as a fourth cloud computing service model, with a level of abstraction that is higher than that of SaaS. According to a report from Research and Markets, the global BPaaS and Cloud BPM solutions market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 45.55%, revenues will rise from $1.09 billion to $7.12 billion between 2013 and 2018. In today’s vibrant business environment , BPM vendors should incorporate multi-process platforms to acquire customers and stay ahead of competitors. On other hand organizations have realized the potential of this model and exploring the option to implement in their current work environment. Benefits of BPaaS and Cloud BPM– - Minimize capital, infrastructure, and IT expenses - Pay by user - Minimal technology constraints - Time to market - Scale-up or scale-down based on the requirement - Easy and quick deployment - No hardware maintenance - Collaboration across the enterprise processes - Business focus on core capabilities - Offers continuous process improvements - Easy accessibility : Any location any mobile device Challenges - Data Security - Unknown Reliability of infrastructure - Integration of in-house systems is bit complex - Accountability - Adhering to government regulation and compliance From organization standpoint, It would be a good practice to assess existing environment ( for example : types of process, interfaces, databases and their complexity) before considering to move with Cloud BPM. Organizations should initiate hybrid approach to balance their operations well to make a smooth transition to comprehensive cloud architecture as they gain control and confidence. The BPaaS and Cloud BPM would certainly enhance process agility and moderate the cost. As the model matures by addressing challenges like security and compliances, more and more organizations would realize its potential and implement it to obtain business advantages.
