Co-curated by Steven ten Thije and Alistair Hudson, “Confessions of the Imperfect: 1848-1989-today” opens today at Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. The exhibition presents a diverse mix of historical material and is inspired by English art critic and social reformer John Ruskin (1819-1900). Ruskin stated: Modern man does not want to live with imperfection, but wants to do away with it and create a perfect but inhuman world. A sentiment often briefly interrupted, as with the Barricade of 1848 or the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, it is otherwise determinative for the world we live in. The exhibition shows how the urge to continually transform and perfect manifests itself in our daily lives and how art and design both go along with and counteract it. #internationaleonline #usesofart confessions.vanabbe.nl/#text
