Coachella Song of the Day (88 Days Until Coachella): “Head Underwater” from Jenny Lewis’ The Voyager I’d been a fan of Jenny Lewis’ work with Rilo Kiley for a long time before last summer, but it wasn’t until Lollapalooza 2014 that I got to see the child-star-turned-indie-goddess in the flesh. I familiarized myself with her solo catalog prior to the Chicago festival, but can’t say that either of the two solo records she had out at the time, 2006’s Rabbit Fur Coat and 2008’s Acid Tongue, resonated with me anywhere close to the levels of Rilo Kiley LPs like More Adventurous or Under the Blacklight. Because of that, I was looking most forward to the Rilo Kiley selections that might be played when my brother Chris and I showed up to Lewis’ aftershow at the Park West in Chi-Town on the Friday of the festival. The beauty and swagger of the set’s second song, Lewis’ former band’s “Silver Lining,” further suggested to me that the songs that made her a household name in indie circles would be the highlights of the night.
