Coach’s Corner 1/8/15 “Character of a new man” “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:12-17 NKJ) When I read this I was actually doing a study on peace. But not just the peace of man, the peace that comes from God. I didn’t quite get the connection between this passage and inner peace and then two words hit me and it all came together; “forgiving and love”. Reading this scripture I can clearly see God giving us a road map to inner peace, and again it isn’t the kind of peace the world has. It’s God’s peace, a peace that we have in the midst of the storm. You see, as I have mentioned before, I believe that God has been sending me clear messages on areas I need to work on if I want to grow in my walk with Him. Those areas are faith, forgiveness, grace, the Holy Spirit, love, Revelations, and trusting in the Lord with everything. And two days ago the Lord answered one of my prayers with the best birthday present I could have ever received. My Dad leaned over the table and with this smile and twinkle in his eye, looked at me and said, “I forgave #*^+.” (out of courtesy I didnt put the other persons name) I could see it in his eyes that he was truly relieved and happy that he did it. I could also see the spirit of anger and bitterness was gone from my father’s countenance. So many years I have struggled with my past, present, and future. I have battled with the new man and the old man because there are so many people out there that won’t forget, forgive, or let us move on from that past. But that can’t get in the way of our duty, relationship, and responsibility to follow God’s plan for our lives’. Part of that plan is obeying His word and scripture is clear that when we accept Christ we are a new creation and all things are passed away. In just about every sport there is a game plan or manual for training. This scripture is a clear guide and tells us very specifically what we are to do… Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:12-17 NKJ) In His Grip, Coach
