Coal Ages story on Alpha closing all of its West Virginia Surface - TopicsExpress

Coal Ages story on Alpha closing all of its West Virginia Surface Coal Mines. This is disasterious for the State of West Virginia. They are reporting that 1000 plus jobs will be lost but that is just scratching the surface of the problem. That figure is just Alphas lost jobs , and says nothing for the scores of COAL HAULERS , RAILROADERS , PIRIVATE CONTRACTORS , and others that are employed as a result of Alphas Mines in West Virginia and the related jobs they create. In regard to the effects this will have on jobs outside the industry in the citys , towns and villages throughout West Virginia, scores of other jobs will be lost once the un-employment compensation checks stop, as people will be forced to leave this part of the state for jobs elsewhere. I truly believe that you could see prolems in southern West Virgina that of the magnitude seen in Detroit after the auto industry started leaving the city. Friends we have a real problem on our hands here. We have seen this before in our COAL history when the Anthricite COAL Mines began closing in Pennsylvania , only now is are the Anthricite COAL communities starting to recover , and the recovery has been very slow. I welcome your comments on this matter and by all means please share this with all your friends on Facebook. I am doing my best to monitor this situation very closely ad will do my very best to keep everyone informed. Richard M. Roche COAL Mining Historian / Writer ,and advocate for COAL
