Coast Guard Extinguishes Fire Onboard F/B Jun & Cathy in Aklan DOTC-PCG: The personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Caticlan have successfully rescued a fishing boat that caught fire 30 meters off the shoreline of Barangay Sambiray in Malay, Aklan last Monday, September 9. Investigation conducted with the master of fishing boat Jun & Cathy 2 revealed that a fire broke out onboard when one of his crew members left a cooking dish unattended around 10:20AM of the said date. The burning fishing boat was sighted by the Coast Guard duty personnel at the Caticlan Jetty Port and reported the incident to Coast Guard Station (CGS) Caticlan which in turn, immediately dispatched its Deployable Response Team onboard M/Bca Remalyn. Nearby motroboats at the area also rendered necessary assistance to combat the fire onboard FB Jun & Cathy-2. At 10:45 AM, the rescue team declared “Fire Out” and no casualties or injuries were reported. However, the incident incurred damages to the fishing gears/nets, wheelhouse and some areas at the aft section of the floor deck with an estimated amount of P700,000.00. Said fishing boat was subsequently towed by M/Bca Remalyn to the nearest shoreline for possible repair. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard advised the Master to file a Marine Protest relative to the incident and to secure a certificate of seaworthiness from MARINA prior to resumption of fishing operations.
