Coast Guard Station Iloilo rescues 20 passengers in Guimaras PCG: 20 members of Panay Anglers Association were brought to safety by the search and rescue team of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo from a distressed motorbanca at vicinity waters Barangay Dagsaan, Buenavista, Guimaras last 29 June. A certain Mr Francis G Sambaon, boat engineer of Mbca Aquarius 21 reported to CGS Iloilo and revealed that he received a text message from one of the passengers of Mbca Mystic Smile informing that they were drifting towards said vicinity due to engine failure. Personnel of said station immediately conducted rescue operations and subsequently towed the distressed motorbanca to Parola Wharf in Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City. All passengers were safely disembarked and were sent home to their respective residences. Further investigation revealed that while the crew of Mbca Mystic Smile was conducting fishing venture at the vicinity waters off Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan, Guimaras, the chief engineer of said motorbanca noticed that the engine suddenly stopped. They failed to conduct engine repair and inspection and they continuously drifted towards Iloilo Strait. CGS Iloilo issued a Maritime Violation Report (MVR) to the boat captain of subject motorbanca for operating without special permit to conduct fishing in violation of Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Memorandum Circular 120 and Inspection Apprehension Report (IAR) for leaving port without clearance in violation of Headquarters Philippine Coast Guard (HPCG) Memorandum Circular 07-12. Said station further advised the boat captain to file a Marine Protest and to secure a certificate of seaworthiness prior operation. Moreover, Mbca Mystic Smile, owned and operated by Mr Buenaventura Ondoy was towed by Mbca Francis Ivan III to Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan, Guimaras for repairs.
