Coastal Resiliency Hurricane Sandy made landfall two years ago - TopicsExpress

Coastal Resiliency Hurricane Sandy made landfall two years ago and devastated communities along the Atlantic Coast, with reported national damages of over $50 billion. U.S. Fish & Wildlife received funding for recovery and coastal resilience projects. One of the numerous projects is a coastal study to assess the strengths and weaknesses of salt marshes and shorelines at 12 national wildlife refuges from Virginia to Maine. On Long Island, Monica Williams, Molly Hastings, Tim Simmons, and biological technicians completed the installation of salt marsh rod Surface Elevation Tables (rSETs), used to track changes in surface elevation in salt marshes compared to local rates of sea-level rise. The valuable data will identify those areas with the greatest need for restoration.
