Coastal Waters Wind Warning For Torres Strait to Cairns. Issued at 6:45 pm EST on Saturday 6 July 2013 Synoptic Situation A ridge of high pressure will combine with a weak trough moving west over Papua New Guinea to increase the wind speeds over far northeastern Queensland waters tonight. A slow moving high will enter southeastern Australia from Sunday and strengthen on Monday, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Strong Wind Warning Torres Strait to Cape Grenville Expect southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots during Sunday. Seas increasing to 3 metres in open waters with a 1.5 to 2 metre southeasterly swell. Strong Wind Warning Cape Grenville to Cooktown Expect southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots this evening. Seas increasing to 3 metres outside the reef and to 2.2 metres inside the reef. A 1.5 to 2 metre southeasterly swell developing outside the reef on Sunday. Strong Wind Warning Cooktown to Cairns Expect southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots during Sunday morning. Seas increasing to 3 metres outside the reef and to 2.2 metres inside the reef. A 1.5 to 2 metre east to southeasterly swell developing outside the reef. The next warning will be issued by 11 pm AEST. Please be aware Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
