Cobra Rows Cobra rows performed on an exercise ball or in a bent-over standing position with tubing or barbells provide an intermediate-level workout that targets muscles of the back and shoulders, including the rhomboids. To do the exercise on a stability ball, lie on your stomach on the ball with your legs straight and the toes of your flexed feet touching the floor. Arms extend forward to create one line or plane and your thumbs point upward. Contract your abs and buttocks for stability. If using resistance tubing or dumbbells, lean forward and hold the tubing or dumbbells in each hand, then engage the muscles of the middle back by rotating your arms slowly out to the sides while pulling your bent elbows directly back toward your hips in a rowing motion. Do eight to 10 repetitions.
