Codex Alimentarius is a strange animal. International standards - TopicsExpress

Codex Alimentarius is a strange animal. International standards are agreed by mid-level administrative personnel of various health ministries around the world. Those standards practically force countries (and their parliaments) to fall in line adjusting their own legislation. There is no wider discussion of the pros and cons, and not even a clear procedure of voting. And that is how our laws on nutrition are made. It is much like bringing a small group of lawyers together to agree on new criminal and civil law. Of course we would never accept that. But why are we accepting it when it comes to one of the most important human activities which proper nutrition certainly is?
