Coffee Discovery Ride No. 1 - 16th August 2014 The day dawned bright, sunny and a brisk 6.7C. The Croc Rockers headed out through the Wellard Hills to Rue de Kamikaze Canard (aptly named after one duck tried intimidating the peloton in a game of chicken and the other led De La Mer in a low flying breakaway). After strolling along at a sedate 27-28km/hr the Croc Rockers were led out by the Broad Racing team who upped the pace to leg sapping 34-36km/h all the way to the Raffles Hotel. De La Mer then led Grincheur through the Applecross fending off his Cadel inspired attacks on both the descents and ascent. Arriving in Fremantle the peloton stopped at the Wild Poppy (service, decor and style 9/10) for coffee (7/10) and bacon n egg rolls (6/10). After coffee, food and gossip (well more gossip than either food or coffee) the group headed towards home. Bypassing the coastal path and Arenburg Forest Grincheur and De La Mer led took turns on the front maintain the 27km/hr average pace. After a strong lead out by Grincheur, De La Mer won a rare sprint along the Rockingham foreshore. Recovery coffee and cakes were enjoyed in the sunshine at Spill the Beans. Final ride stats. Riding time 324. Total distance 92.35km. Total ascent 379m. Average speed 27 km/hr. Next weeks ride leader Geoff Barrett.
